We have nearly completed our new home in Eatonton, Georgia, a growing community, which is about an hour and a half from the Atlanta airport. Our small farm is peacefully situated in Water’s Edge, a gated neighborhood, which has both equestrian and lake front lots. There is a large community barn and riding arena here and there are wonderful riding trails winding past the individual houses and pastures, and through the surrounding woods.
From the rear windows of our house we can view our fishing pond, and from the front windows, we can see our new barn and beloved mares. The pond is well stocked and it is frequented by a blue heron, a kingfisher, an osprey and occasional flocks of Canadian geese. Eatonton is one of several small, historic towns that are touched by Lake Oconee and the ongoing developments by the Reynolds family and others. There are six highly rated golf courses here, a Ritz Carlton and several quality restaurants.
Lake Oconee is an 18,000-acre lake and is fast becoming a destination of folks from the Atlanta area building lake homes, and for retirees from around the country. Eatonton is located in Putnam County, the dairy capital of Georgia, and bucolic scenery adorns the drive here from 1-20. We have plenty of room and welcome visits from family, friends and horse lovers.
Arkansas is a true mecca of Egyptian breeders, and we were blessed to be among the members of the Pyramid Society’s Region Nine. We are finding that Georgia and Florida’s Region 12 is another cohesive and generous group, filled with many quality, enthusiastic and creative breeders. Our adventure with the Arabian horse continues to enrich our lives.
